Rwanda participates in ITB Asia 2017
27th October 2017
As one of Asia’s leading travel trade show organised by Messe Berlin, ITB Asia took place from 25th to 27th October 2017 at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the show in successfully bringing together experts within the travel trade industry from all over the world to engage in dynamic B2B discussions.
In partnership with Thousand Hills Africa and with the assistance of the High Commission of the Republic of Rwanda in Singapore, Remarkable Rwanda made its virgin appearance at ITB Asia this year. Representing Rwanda at ITB Asia are Mr Khassim Bizimungu and Mr Isaac Niyoyita from Rwanda Development Board, as well as Ms Jacqui Sebegeni from Thousand Hills Africa. Since day one, Remarkable Rwanda has seen a remarkable amount of interest. Not only had Khassim, Isaac and Jacqui received a lot of inquiries from buyers attracted by the images of gorillas, lions and Intore dancers on the booth walls, Khassim and Jacqui were also interviewed by ITB Asia and will be featured in their official video.
In a press conference held on 26 October 2017, media representatives in attendance listened to speakers Mr Lucas J Murenzi from the High Commission, Khassim and Jacqui as they highlighted Rwanda’s development plans and conservation efforts, and answered questions put forth by the audience. Response from the audience has been optimistic and passionate, as they interacted with the speakers regarding the future of tourism in Rwanda. As the press conference ends with a video presentation of Rwanda, it was evident that the audience was quite taken with the beauty of Rwanda’s nature and the energy of its people.
For Khassim, a solid foundation has been laid at ITB Asia. “These three days have been very fulfilling for me as a representative of Rwanda at ITB Asia. We have managed to establish business contacts with people who have shown such a healthy interest in selling and promoting Rwanda.” Jacqui echoes his optimistic sentiments: “ITB Asia has been a great success for me, as it has provided an introduction to this interesting, lucrative and high-growth potential market that is Asia. We found people curious and interested in Rwanda, and once they heard what we had to offer, they became even more interested. I believe we can grow the numbers from Asia quite significantly.”
